Green Smoothies For Hair Growth

Green smoothies are made with leafy greens that are loaded with hair-healthy vitamins and nutrients. They provide the body with tons of natural energy, enhance your cognitive capabilities, aid in digestion, improve skin and overall health & wellness. Drinking green smoothies is an excellent way to get your 2-4 daily servings of fruits and vegetables.

Let’s face it- there are a lot of people that don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables; perhaps because of too much work or maybe the taste is not up to your liking. So why not make life easy and toss them in a blender to make a delicious drink?

Diet plays a huge role in the health of your hair. With the right kind of nutrition, hair health can improve in a matter of a couple of months! Yes, you read that right.

But what is the “right kind of nutrition” and how does it impact hair?

Adequate amounts of biotin and protein are the two most important nutrients that are needed to improve hair growth. Protein is vital for hair growth as hair follicles are mostly made up of a protein called keratin. Biotin is crucial for hair because it is responsible for the production of keratin.

Increasing the intake of these two nutrients can substantially improve hair health. Aside from biotin and protein, you will need to eat foods rich in other nutrients like sulfur, zinc, iron, and Vitamin E as they all help to nourish the hair follicles and promote healthy hair growth.

Superfoods For Hair Growth

Where do you find these hair-mazing nutrients and minerals? In food, where else! More specifically, superfoods!

Superfoods are literally the superheroes of the world of plants. They are nutritional powerhouses that offer amazing benefits for hair. From vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, and even healthy fats, superfoods have it all! They make hair stronger, thicker, and shinier from the inside out.

Including superfoods in your daily diet ensures you are providing your body the fuel it needs to fight back against chronic illnesses and nutritional deficiencies that hinder hair growth.

Although there are a whole lot of superfoods out there, the majority of them grow from the soil and are easily found in nature. You can also find superfoods like bananas, berries, and spinach in your local supermarkets.

However, the easier way to consume superfoods is in powder form because they can be added into smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, and even just water.

Here are my personal favorite superfoods that I like to include in my smoothies to reap all the hair goodness from them.

1. Kale

Kale contains more than 2 times the Vitamin C found in spinach and helps the body produce collagen that builds hair’s strength, structure, and elasticity. This dark leafy green offers an abundance of other vitamins (A, B, & K) and minerals like iron & potassium that all work together to moisturize the scalp, making it healthy, free of dryness and dandruff.

2. Matcha

Matcha is powdered green tea that contains 3 times more antioxidants (catechins) than regular brewed green tea! One gram of matcha contains 30% recommended daily dose of manganese, a powerful antioxidant that improves skin, bones, and hair. The natural caffeine found in matcha promotes attention & memory while avoiding a crash in energy levels.

3. Moringa

Moringa is truly a nutritional powerhouse of a herb containing 6 times the amount of iron than kale. It has 27 bio- available vitamins and minerals, 46 active antioxidants, and 21 amino acids. If that is not enough, moringa is 30% vegetable protein which makes it a perfect protein source for those on a vegan diet. The herb helps to improve the thickness of hair, helps fight harmful toxins, keeps the nervous system healthy & functioning at its best.

4. Bamboo Leaf

Bamboo leaf contains the richest source of natural silica to promote healthy hair and nail growth. Niacin and vitamins A & E found in the bamboo plant reduces hair breakage and protects hair from free radicals, giving it shine and luster. Bamboo leaves help to support the body’s detoxification process, aid in digestion and strengthen the bones, teeth, nail, and hair.

  1. Hi Sasha, Great post. I did know a bit about hair health nutrition before reading this but I love how you’ve put everything into detail here. I knew about some of the ingredients and definitely about Biotin and Keratin but I didn’t know about some of the ingredients you mentioned and also I love the recipes you share.

    Best regards;

    Alex

  2. Wow great recipes! A lot of great information! I think I’m going to pass the link of this post to a friend of mine that could benefit from it. She’s having trouble with her hair a lot these days.

As far as I’m concerned, you did a great job in convincing me to try out these green smoothies! I also like the company you recommended and i will look more into them and give them a try.

Thanks again for giving us such useful information! Your other articles are equally informative and educational.

    1. Thanks, Joseph! Yes, surely give Herbal Goodness a try- you won’t regret it! But also try the smoothie recipes too if you get a chance!

  3. Hi Sasha, great smoothie recipe you’ve got here.
Hair loss can be upsetting, especially for women, and I agree our diet and lifestyle plays a major role in hair growth.
I love that they are natural foods; I wouldn’t want to use chemicals that will damage my hair.
I might try out this yummy looking smoothie straightaway.
    Cheers.

  4. Just what I was looking for. I have heard of the benefits of Morings, but some were a surprise. I think, even onion juice helps hair a lot.

Thank you for this beautiful article.

    Love,
    Aps

  5. Fantastic article again, Sasha! And it is according to my heart. Because I am a natural health freak, I can confirm every word you are saying here. I drink green juices and powders daily, and it is essential for our skin, hair, and the whole body that detoxes daily and uses the vitamins and minerals to repair our cells. I juice organically grown vegetables, but I also blend vegetables and fruits.
Flaxseed is amazing, full of healthy compounds, and great for women because it balances the estrogen, the hormone which makes beautiful hair. Menopausal women can balance their hormones by consuming flaxseed daily. Like chia seeds, flax seeds have many omega 3’s. The phytoestrogen occupies the estrogen receptors, preventing bad estrogens, like xeno-estrogens coming from plastic from holding on to the body’s estrogen receptors.
I love smoothies, and I can’t be without them. I don’t know Herbal Goodness, but I will check them out. The name alone sounds great to me. Thank you, Sasha, for this very informative post. 🙂

    1. Hey Sylvia! Your green knowledge and lifestyle is completely an inspiration!! I have just recently started to grow out my herbs and produce (thanks to summer time here) and I can’t be happier. I am obsessed with the sustainability aspect of it and of course, the added health benefits that come with it-its a bonus worth every effort! I am happy to hear that you love smoothies as much as I do. Herbal Goodness is definitely a brand worth checking out. way too many “goodness” to list out lol 🙂

  6. I really like the natural way of doing things as I believe they have little to no side effects especially when you aren’t allergic to anything natural you consume.

Green juice for hair is something I would definitely like to try because I get to kill two birds with a stone, that’s getting to grow my hair with natural ingredients and also my body gets to stay healthy or improve and I all for it.

Im not really used to Kale and moringa try but i might try them out.

    Great article.

    1. It takes a while to get used to the taste of Kale and Moringa but once you do, you may begin to love it! You can always substitute kale for spinach if you prefer.

  7. Hi Sasha!

I knew greens had a lot of health benefits but I didn’t know that it could help so much with hair growth! That’s pretty amazing. I did a cleanse at the beginning of the year and have a little PTSD with green smoothies haha!

But the matcha tea sounds delicious! I do drink a smoothie every morning sometimes with spinach or kale so I do get my morning greens in. I also eat a mostly plant-based diet so hopefully that helps keep my hair healthy as well as my heart!

Great content and thank you for sharing!

    1. Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience! But I am glad it didn’t deter you from consuming your greens! You go girl! 🙂
